Gabriel 'Napao' Gonzaga holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Wander Braga, and is a former member of the famous Chute Boxe Academy. He won the Mundials (2004), which is considered to be the top BJJ competition in the world and currently trains with Team Link in Massachusetts. Gonz made his debut in mixed martial arts when he defeated Cicero Cicero on April 4th, 2003 in Santos, Brazil at the Brazilian Gladiators 2 event. He has quickly risen to the top of the heavyweight ranks and is perhaps best known for his two exciting fights against Mirko Filipovic and Randy Couture. Gabriel stunned the world on April 21, 2007 when he knocked Mirko out with a devestating head kick late in the first round after dominating Filipovic from the start. Gonzaga's Mixed martial arts (MMA) record is currently 11-6-0 and 7-5-0 in the UFC. He made his MMA debut on April 4, 2003 in Santos, Brazil against Cicero Costa, winning via submission due to punches in the first round. He made his UFC debut at UFC 56, knocking out Kevin Jordan at 4:39 of the third round. However, Gonzaga had noted that his debut did not come without complications. Weeks before the fight, his pregnant wife started having complications with her pregnancy and lost one of the twins she was carrying. Gonzaga's obligations to his wife during her high risk pregnancy left him unable to train properly. Gonzaga would later return at UFC 60 and win against Fabiano Scherner via TKO at the second round.
